John Price working memories:

by | Personal memories of the village

Introduction:

Welcome to the memories of John Price. John is 86 years old and has lived in the village all his life. He now lives at No. 2 Glanant Place which is next door to the old Police Station. His memories cover his early years living in Rosser Cottages up the Cwtch, and why the front of his house fell away. The majority of the recording is about his working life as a miner at a number of mines in the valley, and his time as a Landscape Gardener.

The recording was made on May 30th in the Boxing Club. Doing the interviewing was Huw Watkins and myself Roy Bowen. John has a fine memory and he spoke for just over an hour without any notes to help him. So sit back, relax and listen to John’s story.

I have attached a few photos of John taken on his first day as a miner and one of the last day as a miner. I have also included a newspaper clipping from 27th January 1953 when the front wall of his house collapsed, he mentions this story in the recording. There are also a few photos of his mining butties and his Grandfather and Great Grandfather.
